Deceptive Brain Messages
A reflection
A breakthrough happens when we understand the difference between our brain and the mind.
The brain is confined inside our skull. It is an organ. The mind, however, is electromagnetic, housed in what scientists call the “field.” Mind is non-local. The brain programs itself based on our life experiences, and does a really good job in protecting us. The mind contains wisdom from everywhere.
In reading the book “You Are Not Your Brain,” I am learning how deceptive the brain can be — giving us messages that protect us in the moment but gradually damaging our growth in the long term.
Cravings and addictions are such deceptive messages. When we cannot feel love, we turn to such things for instant gratification. The awareness of such messages, labeling them as ‘deceptive’ and practicing not giving in to them paves the way for change. Yes, it is possible, because we are neuroplastic.
Then, our goals become to get better at the practice of identifying deceptive brain messages, and take the proper action to debunk them through radical acts of self love.
Such acts of love must come from the mind.
