Escaping Thoughts
A reflection
What are we running from?
The mind is one small part of us. We are more than our minds. Because we are.
As I woke up late this morning, my mind was rushing, going through all sorts of fearful, pointless thoughts. Maybe they were just unbalanced chemical reactions that needed to be processed.
Then I observed how the majority of these thoughts were some form of escape from my purpose work — from what is that one thing my heart wants to do but my mind fears.
The realization and the actualization of my purpose work scare my mind.
So I slowed down, and allowed myself to relax. I was then able to identify the thoughts that were coming from fear. Once I labeled them as fearful thoughts, I had access to more thoughts and ideas that were healthier.
Those healthier thoughts were much more meaningful and, in a way, easier.
I realized I didn’t have to go to a nice café far away to feel good because feeling grounded at home was unsettling. Instead, I could take a walk around my residence, play with a street dog, get groceries for lunch, and enjoy my home. Taking ownership and responsibility for my time and space was a healthier choice.
Then I could meaningfully dedicate myself to reading and writing. With ease.
We must be vigilant of our thoughts and practice scanning and labeling them so we know what purpose they serve.
Do they serve us? Do they make us whole? Do they allow us to be?
If not, simply let them pass like clouds, so they may flow somewhere else in the universe.
