He is about 12 years old and overweight. He needs insulin every 12 hours. His name is MM. And he has a very loving, strong caretaker who is also my partner.

This morning, I felt tired, as I am still recovering from covid. So I decided to lay down on the bed for a while. I saw MM on the side of our bed. His big body lay flat on the door mat, with his round head placed gently over his left arm.

Gentle, slow breathing. Just sleeping. Living his life one day at a time. Allowing himself to be fully taken care of. That’s the feeling he instilled in me when I stared at him for about five seconds.

In being himself, he has allowed me the pleasure of looking at him and appreciating life.
